2024 Season

We enjoyed the collaboration with Paisley Philharmonic Choir very much and it was great to make our return to singing and performing post-Covid in grand style with over 90 singers in Paisley Abbey in March. We are planning to do a concert on our own for 2024. This will help us to retain our own distinct identity, but it does not mean we don’t revisit the possibility of collaboration in the future. Our concert programme will be Balshazzar by Handel.

Nick Wilks, our Musical Director, comments: “This is a work I’ve done with two very different choirs, and the singers loved it. It is not as well known as Messiah, and for that reason fulfils that important brief for the choir: to offer something distinctive and different. You’ll get the opportunity to characterise a whole range of different groups – complacent followers of Belshazzar, fearful courtiers, enslaved Hebrews, an improbably noble Persian army, and a kind of Greek chorus which reflects on the morality of the story. An impressive quintet of soloists, small orchestra and continuo complete the line-up. The music is absolutely first rate Handel – wonderfully characterful and inspired”.

Workshop

We are planning to have a workshop/come and sing in October to get us started and give us a taster of the season to come. Details and cost will follow, but the date for your diary is Saturday 28 October 2023 at Holy Trinity St Barnabas Church, Paisley .
